Big leaf hydrangeas are a favorite to say the least. Blooms come in a range of colors depending on the variety, include hues of pink, red, purple and blue, through the summer months. Flower color will be affected by soil pH. To turn the flowers blue, add aluminum sulfate to the soil. For pink blooms apply horticultural lime. Plant big leaf hydrangeas in sun to part shade. They are perfect for hedges and perennial borders, containers, or foundation plantings. These hydrangeas grow to heights of up to 4 feet tall and wide.
