(Persian Shield) Strobilanthes 'Persian Shield' is a striking plant for containers and landscapes alike. The thick, deeply veined leaves are a rich plum color with near-black veining. The purple iridescent shimmer is beautiful as the sunlight hits it. Standing 18 inches up to 36 inches in the right location, ‘Persian Shield’ makes an excellent thriller in containers. The most vibrant coloration comes when planted in full sun, but Persian Shield also does well in a part shade location. This easy-to-grow annual is sought after by home gardeners as well as upscale garden designers. My have to have it shade plant!

This is not the first time I have ordered this plant from Garden Crossings. I do believe though that it was the first place that I discovered this extraordinary plant that is a real shade lover and so easy to take care of. I treat it as an annual in my NY garden. It absolutely shimmers when the light hits its silvery-purple leaves with green veining I always put it in a planter and other than watering it and admiring it, the Persian Shield takes care of itself and does not seem to be bothered by insects or plant diseases. My neighbors have commented on how attractive it is in the shade, especially since the local nurseries do not carry it. So thank you Garden Crossings for introducing and carrying this fantastic plant every year for me to get for my garden here in NY.
