Description
(Clematis) Looking for a Clematis that is a hard worker? Look no further than Clematis ‘The President’. The free flowering habit of ‘The President’ graces your garden with blooms during the months of June to September. The large 8 inch, dark purple blooms are brought together with deep purple anthers that contrast against its dark green foliage. Its blooms attract bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies making it a great pollinator plant. It is also deer resistant so you shouldn’t have to worry about those critters. Standing 8-12 feet tall, ‘The President’ is perfect for growing up and over obelisks and arbors. It adds tremendous vertical interest to your garden or landscape! Its flowers and leaves thrive under full sun, but its roots like to be kept shaded by mulch or ground cover plants. This clematis is a part of prune Group 2. In February or March, give it a light trim, and clean up any dead or weak stems to keep it healthy for the blooming season ahead. This very popular variety is a Garden Crossings top seller year after year. It is a must have starter clematis! Please note: flower color may vary due to the environment in which it is grown.

Reviews
Planted this clematis for my mother in 2005. Transplanted it to my home after her death in 2006. Gets morning sun; roots are shaded. It is gorgeous. Even with improper pruning (plant was incorrectly labeled as a jackamanni), it has flourished and is a showpiece of my garden. Very easy maintenance too.
