Designer Threads® 'Heartstrings' Thread Leaf Coreopsis

I live in North Mississippi in the Delta region, where summer daytime temps can soar to 115, with humidity pushing the heat index above 140. Then we can experience 4 to 6 weeks without rain in August to September, and winter temps here have fallen as low as single digits.

This Coryopsis and a few of its very close relatives have had the leaves burned to crisps and endured an ice storm that left 2 inches of ice on the ground for almost 3 weeks. After it became established (I'm now finishing year 2), it is a jewel of the garden. The photograph might as well be taken from my planting. It's simply gorgeous, and the thing that I learned to do is leave it alone. It might look long dead and gone. Whatever flowers were on it when it arrived, all the petals are gone, and just brown, crisp stalks remain. Don't screw with it. It will come back, I promise you. The temptation to dig mine up four or five times in the last 2.5 years, I resisted, and I've been duly rewarded.
