Dragon Slayer' Adam's Needle (Yucca)
- Very Durable,
- Likes the Heat,
- Tall Flower Scapes
Description
(Adam's Needle) 'Dragon Slayer' Yucca, commonly known as Adam's Needle, is a bold and durable perennial that thrives in tough garden conditions—especially in hot, dry climates. This resilient plant forms a striking rosette of sword-like, blue-green foliage that adds dramatic texture and structure to the landscape. Its upright habit grows about 24 inches tall and spreads 30–36 inches wide, making it an eye-catching focal point in any sunny spot. In early to midsummer, mature plants send up impressive flower stalks that can reach up to 48 inches tall. These stately scapes are topped with creamy white, bell-shaped flowers and emerge on dark burgundy stems, creating a striking contrast against the foliage. Flowering typically begins once the plant reaches maturity, rewarding gardeners with a spectacular seasonal display. Hardy in zones 5–10, 'Dragon Slayer' Yucca thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. It's extremely drought tolerant once established and adapts well to nearly any well-drained soil type. In addition to being low maintenance, it is both deer and rabbit resistant. Pair 'Dragon Slayer' with other sun-loving, drought-tolerant plants like coreopsis, delosperma, or ornamental grasses for a resilient and visually dynamic garden design. 'Dragon Slayer' Yucca is a Proven Winners® Perennial.
