Description

(Ornamental Grass) Sporobolus, or Prairie Dropseed is a native grass to North America. 'Gone With the Wind' Sporobolus is a shorter version of the species growing 36-40" high by 20-24" wide. The green foliage is set off by numerous airy, tan colored flower heads that have a light fragrance. Sporobolus 'Gone With the Wind' provides graceful movement to the garden along with producing seeds that will attract birds, however, don't worry as those seeds will not self-sow. 'Gone With the Wind' is best grown in well-drained, dry soil in full sun. It can take some light shade, but too much will cause the plant to flop. Sporobolus is drought tolerant once established as it becomes deeply rooted and is hardy in zones 3-9. Please note that it is also a slow grower, taking up to three years to reach mature size. It is, however, worth the wait. This wonderful native grass can be used as a specimen plant, but it shines when planted in drifts where you can really appreciate the flowing movement of the grass in the breeze. 'Gone With the Wind' is also a great addition to a naturalized or prairie garden.
