Amethyst Fringe' Perennial (Salvia)
- Improved Cold Tolerance,
- Later To Bloom,
- Excellent Branching
Description
(Perennial Salvia) Worth the wait for its later-season color, Salvia 'Amethyst Fringe' begins blooming later than many other Salvia varieties, extending beautiful violet-blue color from summer into early fall. Tall flower spikes rise above distinctive foliage, creating a showy display while providing a valuable source of nectar for visiting pollinators.
The foliage deserves attention of its own. Unlike the more traditional leaves found on many perennial Salvias, 'Amethyst Fringe' features uniquely dissected green leaves that give the plant added texture and interest even when it isn't in bloom. Its foliage is also fragrant, adding another appealing characteristic to this easy-care perennial.
Growing approximately 28–30 inches tall and 32–34 inches wide, this Salvia develops into a substantial, well-rounded plant at maturity. Hardy in USDA Zones 5b–9, it performs best in full sun and is a great choice for adding long-lasting color to sunny perennial plantings.
The violet-blue flowers attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators throughout their extended bloom season. Deer tend to avoid the aromatic foliage, making it a useful perennial for landscapes where browsing is a concern. The upright flower spikes are also suitable for cutting, bringing their rich color and vertical texture indoors. With unique foliage, later blooms, and plenty of pollinator appeal, this Salvia offers much more than beautiful flowers. 'Amethyst Fringe' Salvia is part of the Proven Winners® perennial collection.
