Description

(Elderberry) Add unique foliage and texture to your landscape with Black Lace® Sambucus. The near black foliage with heavily serrated leaves resembles that of Japanese maple or Cimicifuga but it is a whole lot easier to grow. The lacy, intense purple-black foliage offers unique texture to the garden and provides season long interest. In midsummer, massive clusters of pink flowers cover the plant and emit a light lemon fragrance. The flowers are a wonderful contrast to the dark foliage. Standing 6-8 feet tall and spreading 4-5 feet wide, Black Lace® Sambucus  is a perfect specimen for landscapes. Planted in full sun to part shade locations, Black Lace® Elderberry prefers moderate to moist soil. Black Lace® is extremely durable and an excellent grower! This deer resistant flowering shrub is a favorite. Black Lace® Sambucus is a Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrub.

Love this. I have it growing and coming back in growing zone 8A, Georgia.

I love the contrast of the dark foliage against the lawn and surrounding shrubs of green. In it's second year I can see where this is going to be a standout in it's locations. Looking forward to increased blooms this season.

Lovely Flower Clusters

Lovely flower clusters throughout the season. Birds enjoy the berries. Black Lace is a little leggy, and breaks easily, so should be planted well away from pathways.

Slow Growth

Second year in the ground showing slow growth, branchy but not much foliage.
