Castle Spire® Blue Holly (Ilex)
- Great for Hedges,
- Deer Resistant,
- Has a Narrow Form
Description
(Blue Holly) Castle Spire® Ilex is a lovely, pyramidal blue holly with superior branching and large, lustrous, dark green leaves that will produce bright red berries for fall and winter enjoyment. The stately, narrow form and evergreen foliage make it an excellent choice for hedges, foundation plantings, or even as a dramatic specimen. This regal shrub will grow 6-10 feet high and 3-4 feet wide and prefers acidic soil with average moisture in full sun to part shade. It is best to avoid pruning female hollies as the flowers and following berries may be affected. If required, light trimming or removal of dead wood may be done in early spring. Birds will enjoy the bright red berries in the fall and winter as long as Castle Spire® blue holly is planted near the male pollinator Castle Wall® Ilex. Both are Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Flowering Shrubs.
