'Fire Island' Hosta

The unique red coloration of the petioles (leaf stems) extends into the base of the leaves for a wonderful contrast. In the summer, the foliage darkens to a bold chartreuse color. ‘Fire Island’ Hosta is a vigorous grower that shows best in full shade. It is hardy in zones 3-9, and can reach a maximum height of 10-14 inches and spread up to 15-30 inches. During the heat of the summer, lavender flowers appear standing out above the bright foliage. These flowers attract hummingbirds to the plant. Fairly easy to care for, ‘Fire Island’ requires moderate to consistent watering, and we recommend trimming the foliage back in the fall when it starts to get slimy.
