Hedge Box® Japanese Holly (Ilex)

This Japanese holly features a dense, upright growth habit, this faster growing variety stands 4-7 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide. Small dark green leaves line the stems of this ilex. Hedge Box® Ilex makes a great narrow alternative to boxwood. These leaves are flat, which help with spider mites from moving in. Hedge Box® Ilex is hardy in zones 5-9. It holds interest in all four seasons, with evergreen leaves that stay through the winter, and small white flowers that appear in the late spring. It grows best in full sun to part shade areas of the garden and in moist acidic soils. However, be sure that the soil has adequate drainage. Given its neat habit, it does not require trimming. However, you may trim in the late winter if you prefer to do so. This ilex is both heat tolerant and salt tolerant and is easy to grow.
