(Siberian Bugloss) There is a new queen of the garden and her name is Brunnera ‘Queen of Hearts’. It features large 9-10 inch heart-shaped leaves. The leaves feature a prominent silvery overlay etched with thin dark green veining that stands out from a distance. Standing 16-18 inches tall and spreading up to 36 inches wide, early to mid-spring it illuminates with periwinkle blue flowers that emerge putting on a special show. Planted in full shade to part shade locations, brunnera prefers average to fertile soil with moderate moisture. With its ‘fuzzy’ texture this makes it unappealing to deer. Brunnera ‘Queen of Hearts’ makes a great specimen plant or go for big impact and plant in mass. Hardy in zones 3-8, this fantastic mounding ground cover can also be enjoyed indoors by snipping a few leaves and blooms and placed in a vase.
