Description
(Plum Tomato) For the tomato connoisseurs out there, ‘San Marzano’ is the top of the line. Compared to Romas, ‘San Marzano’ is thinner and has a more pointed tip. Fruits, on average, weigh 4 ounces. Mature plants reach 40-48 inches tall and can spread to 18 inches wide. Known for its thick flesh and fewer seeds, this plum tomato has a stronger, sweeter taste and has less acid. These indeterminate bloomers produce fruit up and down the vine. We recommend staking or using a trellis for tomato plants to keep the fruit off the ground. This heirloom variety breeds true from year to year if you save the seeds. ‘San Marzano’ is used in pastes, for snacking, or canned.
