'Snowbells' Lenten Rose (Helleborus)

(Lenten Rose) One of the most flower filled helleborus I have ever seen is ‘Snowbells’ Christmas Rose. Hardy in zones 4-9, this early spring bloomer adds a flurry of blooms to the garden. The semi-double, crisp white blooms measure 2.5-3 inches across and are outward-facing. Helleborus niger blooms up to 4 weeks earlier in the season than other helleborus. Depending on where you live you could see blooms as early as Christmas. ‘Snowbells’ Christmas Rose stands 10-12 inches tall and spreads up to 12-14 inches wide. Planted in full sun to part shade locations, they prefer average to fertile soil with average to low needs once established. This deer and rabbit resistant perennial is a great addition to woodland shade gardens as well as in container designs. This drought-tolerant, easy to grow perennial can often be found as a border plant or planted in mass for a spectacular display of early color.
