Sometimes referred to as blue star, amsonia has soft needle-like leaves and light blue star-shaped flowers that emerge late spring, which deer do not like. Amsonia grows into a dense mass approximately 3 feet tall and wide, much like a small shrub. In the fall, the foliage turns a brilliant golden yellow.
